We got back today from a short trip to Scottsdale, Arizona to see a few spring (or actually, winter) training games. The Giants lost both games and looked kind of rusty in the field. But there were definitely a few highlights, including a dominant looking Barry Zito, who struck out two and was untouchable for the two innings he got. Fred Lewis, fresh from foot surgery, took the first pitch he saw over the right field fence in a pretty hard hit homerun and took the ball to the warning track in left of center on his second at bat. Pablo Sandoval was slap happy but managed to do well himself. Randy Johnson was rusty, but by all accounts this is the best he's looked in spring training for a couple of years.

We also attended a BBQ with a few Giants players and Astrid added to her collection of signatures and photos with Giants. I've included pictures of her with Matt Cain and Aaron Rowand, as well as Fred Lewis signing her cap. I uploaded the whole set of photos to Flickr.

The Amgen Tour of California went right by our house today and we were out in force. It was cold, windy and rainy and the last thing I could imagine having to do is a 100+ mile race down the coast (and through the mountains). But they sailed by us, you just don't realize how fast they're going until you see them go by.

Lance is somewhere in the peloton of the second picture. He didn't win today's stage and is now 4th overall.
